EURAMET also receives support of the European Commission as a Grant Agreement: the European Aerial Medical Evacuation Team came into being on January 1, 2010, and will end after 24 months. The project partners are the Austrian and Slovakian Workers' Samaritan Federation and the Styrian state government in Austria. On the European Commission's command, the multinational deployment team can be sent to pick up European citizens from a disaster zone, and fly them back to the EU while providing them with medical and psychosocial care. With EURAMET, the Johanniter have made a commitment that makes use of their core medical competency. The team, under the leadership of the Johanniter, consists of volunteer emergency aid workers who are registered in Medical Emergency Rescue Teams within the framework of the disaster response concept, as well as employees from the areas of logistics and deployment follow-up.
