European Emergency Temporary Shelter (EURETS) has been reallocated to EURAMET, and is being overseen by the Austrian Workers' Samaritan Federation. EURETS has been charged with developing a new approach to post-disaster interim camps, with a focus on camp management. As a junior partner, the Johanniter are involved in project management and are providing the deployment team with paramedics who will be responsible for the camp management. The Slovakian Workers' Samaritan Federation and the Styrian state government in Austria are also partners in the project.
The Johanniter's national headquarters in Berlin, the Logistics Centre in Hamburg, the International Staff and Training Centre in Münster and the Alert and Information Centre in Cologne are involved in all three of the projects, as are volunteers from Johanniter International Assistance. They form the core, and are always prepared to provide EUTAC, EURAMET, and EURETS with fast, competent assistance worldwide in the case of an emergency.
Closely linked with the topic of disaster prevention is the “e-self help” project within the framework of the programs for lifelong learning, which are part of the European Commission's Directorate General Education and Culture. The goal is the development of a computer education program for young people which will help improve their self-help skills during an emergency or natural disaster.
As a reliable training and further education partner, the Johanniter Academy has been involved in the training cycle of the Assessment Mission Course (AMC) from the start, along with Cyprus' Civil Defence, under the leadership of Germany's Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW). In addition to the AMC, the academy has also been entrusted with the development, introduction, and evaluation of table top exercises for key personnel of civil protection modules, together with partners from Slovenia and Croatia, under the general management of the THW. Finally, the Johanniter Academy is also a junior partner with Geo-Pictures. Together with several partners, an integrated service platform is being developed, which will be available for disaster management in global humanitarian missions. With the development and evaluation of this instrument, a reliable means of communication is being created which will, among other things, ease communication in the deployment zone.
