Founded in 1974, Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe in Austria provides rescue, transport and medical services with its ambulances and realises first aid trainings. Civil protection, services for people with disabilities, palliative care, youth work and first aid at public events also belong to its core competences. Over 944 employed staff, almost 558 volunteers and 173 community servants ensure that in four Austrian regions people receive the assistance they need.

Mobile Care Service in Innsbruck, Tyrol

Project

Participation in mobile care service in Tyrol through providing support and assistance to the care team.

The Volunteer

The volunteer will participate in the mobile care service of the Johanniter in Tyrol and support professional care staff. The volunteer will assist and support the mobile care service (not stationary) for elderly and ill persons. The volunteer will learn about the care system in Tyrol and become involved in the Tyrol health and care system in the city of Innsbruck.

Folk Music and Hiking event „Wenn die Musi spielt” (July 2017)

Project

Participation in Ambulance service Open Air Folk Music and Hiking event „Wenn die Musi spielt”.

The Volunteer

The volunteer will participate in the ambulance service provided for the Music event “Wenn di Musi spielt” in Bad Klein Kirchheim, Carinthia. About 15,000 visitors are expected. Johanniter deliversthe ambulance and first aid services during the performances.
The volunteer will learn about Johanniter ambulance service provided for big events and get involved in the Carinthian ambulance system in a rural area.

First Aid Training in Vienna

Project

Participation in training events for rescue staff.

The Volunteer

The volunteer will participate in training events of the Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe Training Centre Vienna and learn about training methods - in theory and practice. The volunteer will also gain insight into emergency medical know how of the Johanniter in Austria.

Ambulance Services at Austrian National Holiday (October 2017)

Project

Participation in ambulance services at Austria´s national holiday.

The Volunteer

The volunteer will participate in the ambulance service delivered for big events in the city of Vienna. The events at the National Holiday at Heldenplatz and Rathausplatz in the very center of Vienna provide presentations of the Austrian Army and a broad variety of institutions involved in security, disaster prevention and health services. About 100,000 visitors regularly participate at the events.
Johanniter provide the most ambulance ressources together with Malteser, Red Cross and Samaritarians.
The volunteer will learn about Johanniter ambulance service provided for big events and get involved in Vienna´s health and care system.

First aid qualification according Austrian “Rettungssanitäter” recommended, but not mandatory.
Language: German or English.

Acute Care Service in Vienna

Project

Practical training in Johanniter Acute Care Service in Vienna.

The Volunteer

The volunteer will participate in the acute care service of Johanniter in Vienna and be part of a (professional or volunteer) team of care and ambulance staff in a patient transport car. The team provides both patient transport and attendance to acute care situations with a broad variety of care situations. The volunteer will assist and support the team. The volunteer will learn about this specific service and become involved in Vienna´s health and care system.

First aid qualification or care qualification.

Language: German or English.

Skiing and First Aid (winter season 2017-2018)

Project

Participation in first aid service on the ski piste.

The Volunteer

The volunteer will participate in the first aid service on the ski piste in Turracher Höhe, Carinthia, intended for skiing tourists.
The volunteer will learn about Johanniter services in an alpine area and support the first aiders during their service.

Where?

Turracher Höhe, Carinthia.

When?

Winter seasons 2017 and 2018 (until end of March, depending on snowfall conditions), Monday to Sunday (max. 3 days) during vacation periods, other periods Saturday/Sunday.

Who can apply?

Qualification equivalent to Austrian “Rettungssanitäter” or higher.
Language: German needed.
Good skiing skills.
