St John Ambulance is the leading first aid charity in Britain and exists since 1887. Thanks to the work of over 40 000 volunteers and 2 500 employees, each year more than 800 000 people in Enlgand complete a first aid training course.

 

Other services include ambulance services, youth work, homeless projects, care and the provision of first aid at public events such as the London Marathon.

Lincolnshire Agricultural Show

The project
The Lincolnshire Show is a fantastic event. It is the best of the relatively few traditional agricultural shows which still thrive in this country and its future is assured by the very successful events business which now runs alongside it. The Show is a unique opportunity for everyone in the foremost farming county to meet, both socially and to do business. It provides a shop window on farming and the countryside for the wider public including children. It is a hugely enjoyable time for everyone who comes through the gates and a really worthwhile two days for exhibitors and standholders. For more information visit https://lincolnshireshow.co.uk/

The Volunteer
We require first aiders too provide cover at this two day regional event, a great example of SJA’s traditional event activities.

Wimbledon Tennis

The project
The Championships at Wimbledon is the oldest tennis tournament in the world and has been held at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London since 1877. We provide comprehensive first aid provision during the Championships from Monday 2nd – Sunday 15th July. The Volunteer
We are looking for First Aiders to JOIN us in this venture with varying shifts throughout the day, we are operational from 08:00 through to around 22:00 at the end of play for all 14 days of the Championships.

Jurassic Coast (Action) Challenge 2018

The project
A Poole Harbour start, then along the spectacular Jurassic Coast - a World Heritage Site. It's up and down through Lulworth Cove to the Weymouth half-way point, then past Portland Bill and the unique Chesil Beach to West Bay's sandstone cliffs (of TV's Broadchurch fame) - before a welcome finish line celebration in the vibrant town of Bridport. Kendal Calling

The project
Kendal Calling was born from a group of music lovers who felt the fabulous fields of the Lake District could be put to better use. When summer came, it was time to take to the fields for a music festival that would grow so big the whole country would hear it calling! Ride London

The project
Prudential Ride London is an annual festival of cycling developed by the Mayor of London and his agencies as a true legacy of the 2012 Games. There are three elements of the event with the main ‘100’, a mass participation cycle over 100 miles starting from East London and going through City of London, Hammersmith, Richmond and Hampton Court Bridge to stunning Surrey countryside.

The Volunteer
We are looking for First Aiders to help us cover this varied cycling event which has become an annual event and SJA has covered from the start.

First Aid cover at Northern Ireland parades

The project

In the weeks leading up to the Twelfth (in July), numerous parades are taking place in Northern Ireland. Tens of thousands of people are involved in the parades that mark the anniversary of the Battle of the Boyne, when William III - the Dutch-born Protestant better known as William of Orange - defeated the Catholic King James II in July 1690.

The parades are a celebration of Protestant religion, heritage and culture. They are taking place all over Northern Ireland through villages, towns and cities.

The Volunteer

The volunteer will participate in the first aid service provided to the marchers and the spectators. Ten of thousands of people are expected.

Every St John/Johanniter volunteer aged over 18.

Cotswold Way (Action) Challenge

The project
The Cotswold Way Challenge returns in 2018. 2,000 adventurers will take on the historic path from Bath to Cheltenham - with most walking and some on the run of their life! It starts in Bath's magnificent Royal Crescent, then continues across the rolling hills with fantastic views towards the Severn Estuary, and idyllic villages in between the 'ups & downs' - with full support & hospitality all the way to the finish line. Goose Fair 2018 - Nottingham

The project
Nottingham's Goose Fair takes place from Wednesday 3 to Sunday 7 October 2018 at the Forest Recreation Ground to thrill and delight city residents and visitors. Visitors to the fair will enjoy more than 500 attractions - from the latest white knuckle rides for thrill seekers to the ever-popular family, children's and old-time rides. Goose Fair is one of Europe's largest travelling fairs with a history that dates back more than 700 years. Amongst the array of Roller Coasters, Water Rides, Giant Wheels, Bombers, Dodgems, Twists, Waltzers and Miamis familiar to Goose Fair there will be a number of new attractions that have not visited Nottingham before.

The Volunteer
We require first aiders to provide event cover at one English traditional travelling fair which regularly attracts 1000s of people each day.

Notting Hill Carnival

The project
Notting Hill Carnival is an annual event that has taken place on the streets of Notting Hill, London since 1966. It is a celebration of cultural empowerment, artistic excellence and entertainment encompassed into the Bank Holiday weekend of 26th and 27th August 2018. As one of the biggest events in our region, we require hundreds of skilled volunteers to staff the treatment centres across the carnival footprint from 10:00 – 22:30 on both the Sunday and Monday. Wye Valley (Action) Challenge 2018

The project
Take on the dramatic landscape straddling the England & Wales border - an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty steeped in history. A Chepstow start - then through the woodlands and limestone cliffs of the Wye Gorge along the magical twisting riverside path to Ross-on-Wye at half way.
You'll climb Capler Hill and traverse above the river before Hereford's cathedral comes into view, and a welcome finish line awaiting, after an amazing journey with full support and hospitality all the way. For more information visit https://www.wyevalleychallenge.com/
