The Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe e.V. was founded in 1952. Its core competences cover rescue, transport and medical services, first aid training, social services, home care and youth work. It holds a state mandate for disaster preparedness and also has a department for international assistance providing humanitarian aid to people in 20 countries all over the world. Its 16 850 employees are assisted by over 33 000 volunteers.

Johanniter Day 2018 in Bochum

Project

Once every two years, our German JOIN member organises a 'Johanniter Day'. 1,500 St John volunteers and staff from all the country and abroad are expected in the city of Bochum on this unique occasion.

A First Aid Competition will take place in a good spirit and atmosphere. Many teams are expected to compete. In the evening, different social events will provide fun to every participants.

The Volunteer

The volunteer will have to be part of a team for the First Aid Competition. Please register as a team composed of 6-8 first aider + 1-2 trainers.

Where?

Bochum, Germany.

When?

1 - 3 June 2018

Who can apply?

Anyone aged from 6 years old. You simply need a first aider or emergency paramedic background. Please do not apply as a doctor.

Languages: English, German or Polish

Other important information

Group housing in a school. Food is available and free of charge.

World Equestrian Festival CHIO Aachen

The project

The CHIO Aachen is the official equestrian show of the Federal Republic of Germany. This is where all of the Nations’ Cups in the five disciplines dressage, jumping, eventing, driving and vaulting are staged. World-class equestrian sport meets up with a very special atmosphere in Aachen. Every year around 350,000 spectators from all over the globe come to experience the World Equestrian Festival.   

The Volunteer

The volunteer will participate in the first aid service provided to the spectators. About 120 St John volunteers from all Germany and abroad are expected.

Every St John volunteer.

Berlin marathon

Project

Provision of first aid and medical cover for participants and the general public at the Berlin Marathon, one of the biggest running events in Europe.

The Volunteer

The volunteer will provide first aid to runners and visitors. He or she will be part of a team at a medical point.

Where?

Berlin, Germany.

When?

14 - 16 September 2018.

Who can apply?

All St John volunteers. Languages: German or English.

Other important information

Arrival Friday afternoon; departure Sunday after 4pm. First aid education of around 60 hours required. Staff accommodation and meals are included and free of charge. It is possible to bring partners/family.

Ambulance services in Allgäu (Bavaria)

Project

The Johanniter regional association of Allgäu is located in the very south of German, close to the Austrian and the Swiss borders. Around 250 employees and 500 volunteers are providing different  social services to the population. The region of Allgäu stretches from the prealpine lands up to the Alps and is notable for its beautiful landscapes.

The Volunteer

The volunteer will participate in the ambulance service as an observer. St John volunteers will learn about ambulance services in a rural and mountainous area.

Region of Allgäu, Bavaria, Germany.

When?

In the course of 2018, to be agreed.

Who can apply?

Every St John volunteers aged over 18.

Languages: English or German.

Accommodation (in the town of Kempten or in the town of Memmingen) und lunch will be provided.

Active senior citizens of Siegburg

Project

Offering assistance to elderly and handicapped people is the aim of the Active Senior Citizens of Siegburg, a city in central Germany. Transportation, regular visits to isolated or lonely people, computer lessons, advisory service, Nordic Walking courses and repair service are provided free of charge and are therefore also available for senior citizens with low income because the active senior citizens of St. John Ambulance Germany work on a voluntary basis. The Volunteer

The volunteer is invited to get an impression of our work. We would be happy to get some information about the volunteer's country and work and exchange experiences.

Siegburg, Germany.

When?

The project continues throughout the year 2018. Please feel free to join us for one or two weeks.

Who can apply?

No qualification or other skills required. Minimum age: 20 years Languages: German or English.

Other important information

Private accommodation (host family) provided with seperate room for the volunteer. Accommodation is free of charge. Food is included and free of charge.
