JOIN Volunteer Swap launched

Brussels, 10. January 2013

The JOIN Permanent Volunteer Swap was launched in January 2013. From now on, volunteers from JOIN members can apply to go to other JOIN countries to take part in selected projects. Go to the JOIN Volunteer Swap website for information on available projects, requirements and contact persons.

The Volunteer Swap is an exchange programme across Europe giving St John volunteers the opportunity to meet other volunteers, learn about other St John organisations and take part in new working fields. Moreover, the Swap raises awareness among St John volunteers that they are part of the wider St John’s family and thus promotes the idea of Johanniter International.

The first Volunteer Swap took place in 2011. Thirteen enterprises of Johanniter International participated. The projects ranged from providing first aid at the London Marathon and assistance for homeless people in Switzerland to a soup kitchen in Riga.

It operated with an exchange chain implying a cycle with volunteers from Cyprus starting in England. Then, St John England, the hosting organisation of the first stage, sent volunteers to the next country and so forth, until the exchange came full circle with St John Cyprus hosting the last event with Italian volunteers.

This particular procedure was applied as a contribution to the European Year of Volunteering 2011 that was hosted by the European Commission.
