Providing international assistance is one of the statutory tasks of Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe, and is implemented by the international assistance department at Johanniter headquarters in Berlin. The department reports directly to the Federal Board, and is divided into three sections: program desk, support desk, and technical advisors. The section ”program desk” coordinates projects and operates the country offices.
The ”support desk” covers finances, logistics, personnel and communication. The ”technical advisor” section is a new area. It focuses on quality assurance and the sustainability of Johanniter International Assistance. It also assists the “program desk” with the introduction of and adherence to important structures related to emergency medical care, public health, rehabilitation for persons with disabilities, and prosthetics & orthotics. It monitors discussions and development surrounding humanitarian aid and international cooperation, and incorporates findings into the strategic development of Johanniter International Assistance.
Country and Regional Offices
International and national employees of Johanniter International Assistance implement and manage projects and programs across country and regional offices located in Afghanistan, Cambodia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Ecuador, Haiti, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Myanmar, Pakistan, Phillipines, South Sudan and Zimbabwe. Whenever possible, Johanniter teams will collaborate with partner and sister organisations, such as St. John Ambulance. In countries where Johanniter is not represented by an office, local initiatives and organisations play an important role, as they will implement projects on Johanniter’s behalf.
