Support for climate-friendly and productive agricultural practices

Project area:

Rattanakiri, Kratie and Stung Treng provinces.

Period:

01.06.2020 - 30.04.2024

Partner:

Live & Learn Cambodia (LLC).

Funding by:

Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development

Target group:

The target group of the project are rural smallholder farmers from 45 villages in the northeastern provinces of Kratie, Stung Treng and Ratanakiri, as well as members of Community Protected Areas and community fisheries.

What it's about:

Rapid economic development in recent years has increased pressure on natural resources and biodiversity in rural areas, negatively affecting livelihoods for farmers and reducing capacity for climate change adaptation and mitigation. Like many smallholder farmers worldwide, Cambodian farmers tend to be very risk averse; crops and yields are highly vulnerable to floods and droughts, pest and disease infestations and other threats, and access to markets is also limited. Farmers/farmers are often ill-equipped to deal with new challenges such as climate change and increasing land pressure.

Examples of activities:

Introduction of vermicomposting technology to 90 interested farmers in the target region.

Training for 1,000 farmers on agricultural techniques and exchange visits

Distribution of seeds and agricultural tools to 1,000 farmers

Workshops for 35 savings groups on community-based enterprise development, leadership and group management

Preparation of business plans for ten small businesses in 3 provinces

Biogas plants for 30 households, solar pumps for 40 households
