Geriatric Trauma Centre

The Johanniter clinics in Bonn offer the best possible therapy for elderly patients requiring surgery following an accident, which meets the special needs and challenges of older patients. As these patients often have several pre-existing conditions (multimorbidity) and therefore usually take numerous medications (polymedication), this must be taken into account accordingly before an operation, as otherwise the complication rate is significantly increased. After surgery, multimodal therapy and activation must be started as soon as possible.

Furthermore, it is important to search for possible causes and triggers of falls (e.g. stroke, cardiac syncope). Subsequently, the causes of falls must be dealt with and successive falls must be prevented.

In order to achieve these goals, there has been close cooperation for several years between the accident surgery ward located in the Waldkrankenhaus (head physician; Dr. Christian Paul) and the geriatric ward located in the Johanniter-Krankenhaus (head physician Prof. Dr. Andreas H. Jacobs). Despite the two geographically distinct locations, there are regular consultative assessments so that close networking is maintained and the best care for elderly patients can be provided. The aim is to provide the best possible care for older patients with fractures or those who have fallen, in the future.

If you have any questions about our centre, please feel free to contact the respective secretariats of the head physicians.
