Sustainable community development in Shan and Karen State

The project aims to protect, restore and improve the livelihoods of people in areas affected by conflict. At the same time, it strengthens the communities' resilience and ability to help themselves. The focus is on the establishment and support of village development committees, the promotion of diversified income opportunities, access to productive and social loans, parental education and early childhood development, improved water and sanitation as well as hygiene education and raising awareness of mine risks. The project will run until April 2026.

Examples of measures:
- Establishment and training of 40 village development committees with a gender focus  
- Identification and promotion of income opportunities (e.g. agriculture, home gardens, livestock breeding, non-agricultural professions)  
- Establishment of community learning centers  
- Granting of productive and social loans via revolving village funds  
- Parent education training and playgroups for children aged 0-8 years  
- Hygiene education through trained village hygiene mediators  
- Construction and rehabilitation of community wells and household latrines  
- Cash assistance for particularly needy families  
- Raising awareness of mine risks
