International Assistance in Somalia
Why we are on site
Life in southern and central Somalia is full of uncertainty for many people. Recurring droughts or floods and long-lasting conflicts often mean that families have no secure access to clean water, medical care, or education. Women, children, people with disabilities, and other disadvantaged groups suffer particularly from these hardships and fear for their safety and future on a daily basis.
What we achieve together with our partner organisations
Together with the local people, we want to help where the need is greatest. We promote local initiatives, encourage cooperation within communities, and support them in finding their own solutions to everyday challenges. In this way, we create hope, new opportunities for action, and new perspectives - especially for those who would otherwise have little voice.
Therefore, we are, together with our partner organizations, working in six regions of Somalia to bring about lasting improvements in people's lives. We provide direct assistance, for example through emergency aid measures such as cash assistance and mobile health services. At the same time, we are investing in a better future: we are providing access to clean water, supporting the construction of sanitation facilities, and promoting basic health care. In addition, we offer training programs to help people learn a profession that will enable them to earn an income. The focus is always on the needs of women, children, and particularly vulnerable individuals. Together with the communities, we develop local groups that take responsibility for water and hygiene and help organize protection and support services. Our work is long-term and is planned together with the people on the ground to ensure that the positive changes are lasting – for greater independence, greater security, and a better life for all.
