Life in southern and central Somalia is full of uncertainty for many people. Recurring droughts or floods and long-lasting conflicts often mean that families have no secure access to clean water, medical care, or education. Women, children, people with disabilities, and other disadvantaged groups suffer particularly from these hardships and fear for their safety and future on a daily basis. 

Together with local people, we provide help where the need is greatest. We support local initiatives, foster a sense of community within local areas, and help them find their own solutions to everyday challenges.

In eleven regions of Somalia, we are committed to bringing about lasting improvements in people’s lives. Our aim is to make people more resilient to climate disasters and conflicts and to give them access to essential services.

We provide direct assistance, for example through emergency relief measures such as cash transfers and mobile healthcare services. At the same time, we invest in a better future: we provide access to clean water, support the construction of sanitation facilities and advocate for basic healthcare.

In addition, we run training programmes to help people learn a trade that enables them to earn their own living in the long term. The focus is always on the needs of women, children and vulnerable people. Together, we set up local groups that take responsibility for water and hygiene, and help to organise protection and support services.
