International Assistance in Somalia

Life in southern and central Somalia is full of uncertainty for many people. Recurring droughts or floods and long-lasting conflicts often mean that families have no secure access to clean water, medical care, or education. Women, children, people with disabilities, and other disadvantaged groups suffer particularly from these hardships and fear for their safety and future on a daily basis. 

Together with local communities, we aim to provide aid exactly where the need is greatest. We promote local initiatives, strengthen community bonds, and support communities in finding their own solutions to everyday challenges.

Through our partner organizations in eleven regions of Somalia, we are committed to bringing about sustainable improvements in people’s lives. Our goal is to make people more resilient to climate disasters and conflicts and to provide them with access to basic services. We provide direct assistance, for example through emergency relief measures such as cash assistance and mobile health services. At the same time, we invest in a better future: We provide access to clean water, support the construction of sanitation facilities, and advocate for basic health care.

In addition, we offer training programs to help people learn a trade that enables them to earn their own income in the long term. The needs of women, children, and vulnerable people are always at the center of our work. Together, we establish local groups that take responsibility for water and hygiene and help organize protection and support services.
