The Department of Internal Medicine – Gastroenterology at Johanniter Hospital Bonn offers comprehensive and highly innovative diagnostics alongside highly individualised therapies for all diseases of the gastrointestinal tract: that is, the oesophagus, stomach, small and large intestine, liver, gallbladder, and pancreas. Within internal medicine, gastroenterology – particularly through endoscopy – plays a key role thanks to its capacity for precise diagnostics, targeted biopsies and punctures, and a wide range of therapeutic options. This pivotal position ensures care that reflects the latest medical knowledge and research findings, always embedded within close interdisciplinary collaboration that is so vital for patients.

With many years of clinical experience and high medical and professional expertise, our endoscopy unit offers gentle, low-burden procedures for diagnostics and therapy. The number of procedures continues to grow significantly, and we currently perform over 3,500 diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic interventions each year, both on an inpatient and outpatient basis.
Our particular areas of focus include diagnostic and interventional endoscopy and endosonography, as well as hepatopancreatology with special attention to diseases of the liver, biliary system and gallbladder, and pancreas. In addition, we diagnose and treat gastrointestinal infections and autoimmune diseases, as well as chronic inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD).
