Obesity Centre

Because of increasing levels of obesity in Germany and the health problems associated with it, therapists specialising in obesity treatment in the Bonn/Rhein-Sieg region have come together to form an interdisciplinary obesity centre. Their goal is to offer optimal individual treatment concepts to those affected. In addition to the medical field, other professionals, and specialists such as dieticians, psychologists, psychiatrists, physiotherapists, and sports trainers are also involved in the treatment of obesity patients.

Patients benefit from holistic care "from one source". A dynamic exchange of information among those affected also takes place within the self-help group “Obesity Centre Bonn”.

The Ward of General and Visceral Surgery at Johanniter-Krankenhaus has had a high level of expertise in the field of the surgical treatment of obesity for many years and has been certified as a reference centre for obesity and metabolic surgery since 2011. In Germany, there are currently only 44 specialised centres with this certificate (as of 2016). For certification, many criteria necessary for successful treatment must be fulfilled, such as the expertise of the surgeons, the infrastructure, the high quality of treatment, follow-up care, etc.
