Look well to the spine for the cause of disease.

The right treatment for your spine. Right from the first approach.

Your health problems should be properly understood and treated right from the first approach. The medical field of spinal medicine has seen a significant increase in knowledge and has evolved as an independent field in medicine. The integration of the fields of neurosurgery and orthopaedics has shown noticeable improvements for spinal treatments both for the patient and in terms of broadening treatment, which before was very limited. Together, these fields are united with us under the common umbrella of "spinal medicine". We see ourselves as a highly specialised and competent centre.

Evidence-based and personalised spinal medicine

Due to technological advancements and achievements, it is possible to create an individualised and modern therapy program for you. We always work on the basis of interdisciplinary discussions. Our therapeutic approaches follow modern, evidence-based medicine through careful deliberation of the latest data available in the literature, and evaluation of new treatments. For us, the individual is always at the foreground. Treatment planning is always carried out with holistic medicine in mind. Therefore, an operation is only suggested if it is the right treatment plan for you.

Spinal medicine is a growing medical field with numerous modern, sometimes surgical, therapy methods. We treat all spinal conditions in our clinic. The spectrum starts with conservative pain treatment with medication and physiotherapy/ medical gymnastics, pure pain treatments with implanted pain therapy probes. We perform minor surgical procedures to remove nerve compressions, constrictions in the spinal canal (spinal stenosis) or prolapsed intervertebral discs. Additionally, we offer stabilising and corrective procedures, if necessary, which address the altered statics of the spine and adapt it to the specific requirements. Generally, it is possible to work with a gentle surgical procedure using minimally invasive methods.

He has been awarded the Master Certificate of the German Spine Society (Deutsche Wirbelsäulengesellschaft DWG) and thus possesses documented and certified clinical and surgical skills of the highest level.

PD Dr von der Brelie has outstanding international experience in the field of conservative and surgical treatment of complex degenerative processes and minimally invasive robotic spinal surgery.

The head physician also has top-class expertise in the field of neurosurgical-oncological treatment. He has been awarded the personal certificate "Special Neurosurgical Oncology" (Spezielle neurochirurgische Onkologie) by the German Society of Neurosurgery (deutsche Gesellshaft für Neurochirurgie).

One of the clinic's special interests is the treatment of patients who have already undergone (sometimes multiple) surgeries. Spinal disorders always require a careful diagnosis and above all, sufficient time for a consultation; a targeted and ultimately promising therapy cannot be planned otherwise.

Communication barriers, the internet, bad experiences or simply insecurity and fear often lead to patients needing a second opinion in their search for the treatment path that is right for them. In the back of their minds, patients often ask themselves until the last moment: "Is the proposed surgery really necessary to the extent that it is? Can a conservative treatment not achieve the desired result instead?"

Uncertainties and fears about such significant questions should lead to a second opinion being sought. In Germany, you have a legal right to such a consultation (see information from the Joint Federal Committee - in German). For this purpose, the German Spine Society has set up a so-called second opinion portal.

PD Dr von der Brelie is one of the few experts who can provide you with advice and support for such questions. Treatment outcomes can only be optimal if the treatment gives you the certainly that the right path is being followed.
