Topics of the Year

These topics shaped our work around the world last year.

War in Middle East

The war has left hundreds of thousands of people in Gaza and Lebanon without livelihoods. Much has been destroyed, and there is a shortage of food, medicine and healthcare. We are supporting people in both countries.

Earthquake in Myanmar

In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that struck the Mandalay region in March 2025, claiming thousands of lives and leaving many injured, we provided medical care using mobile clinics.

War in Sudan

Sudan has been at war for several years. Hundreds of thousands of people have fled the violence and sought refuge in South Sudan. Food and relief supplies are in short supply there. We are supporting the people by taking measures to combat malnutr

Support for Ukraine

We have been active in Ukraine since the start of the war in 2022. Our work includes distributing aid packages, repairing homes and infrastructure, and helping people reach safety. Going forward, we will focus on providing medical care.

Less Money for Humanitarian Aid

The German government has cut funding for humanitarian aid by 70 percent since 2022. Yet people’s needs are growing worldwide. We are committed to ensuring that Germany lives up to its responsibility toward people in need.

Working with Partners

Collaborating with partner organisations is a core principle of our work. In 2025, we continued to foster fair relationships with them and expand their capabilities.

New Structure

We have been operating under a new structure since 2026 due to changing conditions. Preparations for this change have dominated the past year. Specifically, this means greater responsibility for our country offices and a stronger focus on certain regions.

New Approaches to Effective Aid

Supporting People in Crisis

Impact That Matters

Help Worldwide

In 2025, we received around 21.3 million euros in donations for our projects around the world. We take our responsibility to use these funds in a targeted and strategic manner very seriously, so that our activities can have the greatest possible impact on people’s lives. This is evident in our work in Ukraine, Ecuador, Mozambique, Syria and Myanmar, for example.

Fair Partnerships

By supporting local partners and sharing responsibility, we ensure that humanitarian aid reaches people more quickly, effectively and sustainably.

With Respect and Trust

Partnerships

The majority of our activities are carried out on the ground in our target communities by local partners. Together, we plan, implement and evaluate projects so that we can learn from the results. Partnerships with local organisations are one of the core principles of our work. These partnerships are based on mutual learning, respect, trust and the efficient use of resources on both sides. Some of our projects include elements designed specifically to strengthen the capacities of local organisations and structures.

At the same time, we strengthened protections within our organization for everyone involved in our projects. We improved processes, trained 320 employees, and increased accountability to ensure protection, trust, and safe working conditions.
