SAS in Switzerland
St John’s aid society (SAS) has its roots in the social and welfare mission of the order of St. John. The SAS in Switzerland was founded as SAS Basle on February 10th 1998 by members and friends of the Swiss commandery of the Order of St. John and since December 2015 it is a section of the Swiss SAS. The SAS in Switzerland is a legal person according to Article 60 of the Civil Code, and it is recognised as a charitable non-profit organisation.
The sections of the SAS provide practical and financial assistance to the sick, disabled, prisoners and other people in need of help. They want to help regionally, where there are gaps in the social network. The honorary work of the members and other committed fellow human beings enables a spontaneous and direct help for the needy.
