The Johanniter Order

The Johanniter Order is a spiritual knightly order.

The Johanniter Order has its foundation in the confession to Jesus Christ.  This is the basis of its existence.  Without this spiritual dimension, the Order would have faded away in the course of history

Because the Johanniter knights have consistently embraced this spiritual mandate, the Order has remained an inspirational force in society.

Whoever is a Johanniter knight has committed himself to the double mandate of witnessing the faith and assisting the ill and those in want.  Johanniter knights follow the two-fold calling of Jesus to love:

Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and thy neighbor as thyself.

The Order’s regulations have worded this command as, “The Johanniter answers the call, where the suffering of his neighbor awaits his act of love, and where the irreligion of the afflicted demands that he witness his faith.”

Meditating on the foundations of our Christian faith; the profession of our faith in God, the father of Jesus Christ; and our active contribution to the work of our church are the essential pre-requisites for the work done by our Order.  They are the pillars on which the success of our work rests.  Our spiritual outlook and our service to the ill and those in want are the basis of everything we do.  The eight-pointed cross as the sign of the Order is a symbol of the Eight Beatitudes in Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount.  The Johanniter knights are fortified by the encouragement given in Paul’s epistle to the Ephesians:

Above all, take the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.”

In the Johanniter Order, traditions that have stood the test of time are adjusted as necessary to bring them in line with modern times.  As a spiritual knightly order staying true to its core values, the Order will continue to radiate strength and inspiration.
